New York, NY - Every hour of every day one man in the United States is diagnosed with testicular cancer. But it is not one of the cancers you hear people talking about.  Why is that?  It needs to be discussed, as men are needlessly dying from a disease that’s up to 99% curable when found early. The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation is raising awareness of the disease with the 1st Annual Running of the Balls, produced by NYC RUNS, taking place on Roosevelt Island on Saturday, June 15, 2013.

The Running of the Balls will be the Father’s Day event of the year, as people from all over the NYC area will grab their balls and head to Roosevelt Island to celebrate Father’s Day early and help fight the most common cancer in young men. The Foundation is happy to announce a brand new partnership with Toys of Hope. All event participants are asked to bring one brand new sports ball (baseball, basketball, football, etc.) to the event. They may either run with their balls and hand in later, or donate prior to start time. Toys of Hope will be collecting donated balls and distributing them to needy children and their families in the NYC area.

The Running of the Balls, on Saturday June 15, 2013, is an electronically timed 5K on a USATF certified course. Onsite packet pickup starts at 8:30am. The race starts promptly at 10am. The course will feature one H20 station. A bag check, restrooms, entertainment and post race snacks will be provided. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall in each gender, in addition to several special categories. All participants will receive a souvenir “Running of the Balls” t-shirt. To register for the event, visit NYCRUNS.com, for more info visit seankimerling.org.
